About Paul

Paul Wooden
Founder, YogaDharmaLife

Paul Wooden has been practicing and studying yoga and meditation for 35 years and teaching for 30 years.

He draws from his experience in many different styles and traditions and, through a practical understanding of their underlying unifying principles, weaves together a cohesive and integrated approach to yoga.

Paul is a unique voice in the world of yoga.  He has a way of bringing the sometimes abstract teaching of yoga into ordinary language making them accessible and workable in our lives.

For Paul, yoga is first and foremost a relational process, with technique being a way to serve a deepening and more intimate relationship with ongoing moment to moment reality of our lives.

Working with Paul is an invitation to the deeper dimensions of practice. His particular way of working opens us to the sensitivity and receptivity necessary for the subtler inner practices. He has been running retreats for many years and finds them fertile ground for real transformation.

He continues to study the inexhaustible richness of the wisdom traditions and finds particular value in integrating the essential message of the classical, tantric and non-dual traditions.

They each have enormous gifts to offer our inquiry.

Paul continues to study Meditation and has spent many fruitful months in retreat in monasteries in India, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Tibet and many months of self retreat exploring all aspects of these rich traditions.

Paul’s approach offers rich learning possibilities, whether students are beginners or highly experienced practitioners.

Studying with Paul Wooden, students learn to discover and open the natural energetic dynamics of the body to inform and guide the practice of yoga. Working with asana, meditation, pranayama, mantra and inquiry, Paul teaches an embodied practice deeply rooted in the rich philosophy and psychology of the wisdom traditions.

Students find a practice that is individual, transformative and grounded and that leads to greater spaciousness and clarity in daily life.

Paul considers meditation as an essential element in the yogic process and this is a central pillar of what he offers.

He complements studies of the wisdom traditions with a more contemporary understanding of the human condition including developmental psychology and integral theory and trauma work (somatic experiencing) which seeks to help uncover and release the binding patterns of trauma in the body.

He owned and directed the Gertrude Street Yoga Studio in Melbourne for many years before moving to Palawan in the Philippines where he is currently setting up a purpose built retreat centre to help support deeper education and training in the sacred arts of Yoga and Meditation.
